Waves: Chapter 4- Then How About I Prove You Wrong?
After fighting with my mum I go and call a cab and go to the only place I can think of going at a time like this.
In the cab, I go on Facebook where I see Macy is online.
Me: hey.. Need to talk to u really badly.
Macy: sure, what's up? Want to call me?
Me: how about u open your front door.
Macy: my front door?
Me: just do it!
I wait a minute and the door that I am now standing in front of, pulls open to reveal my very confused friend.
"Oh my freaking God!" She squeals before hugging me as I just laugh at her.
"Nice to see you too!" I hug her back.
"I can't believe you are actually here." She says finally letting go of me.
She looks different than I remember. Her brunette wavy hair is just past her shoulders and her clear Hawaiian skin was tanned as ever. She was still quite short and super skinny which made me super jealous because I know how big her appetite is.
"Well believe it." I laugh.
"And why exactly are you here?" She finally asks me.
"I was bored and happened to be in the neighbourhood?" I try as I follow her into her familiar home.
"No really." She asks more serious.
"I sort of live here now." I mumble.
"What did you say? Because it sounded like you said you lived here."
"That is because that is what I said."
"What???" She looks at me shocked.
I sit down on the worn out blue couch and tell her everything that was happening with my family. Macy stays silent throughout the whole story but as soon as I am finished she opens her mouth.
"Layla Hayes is your sister! How do I not know this? I have gone to school with her for years. Now that I think about it though, you guys do look familiar." Macy rambles on.
"You know her?" My eyes widen in shock.
"Yeah. I think I met her in middle school. Which kind of makes sense. She was supposedly homeschooled before that." she explains.
"I just don't understand how I have a sister and I don't even remember her."
"And she is a bitch." I give her a look. "I know she is your twin but it's true! And she flirts with Mason all the time. Gross!" She shudders.
"Eww. Where is Mason anyway?" I ask looking around. "And your parents and Maya?"
"He went out with his friend Dylan. Should be back by dinner. Mum went to the grocery store, so she will be back any minute. She will be thrilled to see you. Macy is at a sleepover, and dad is on some business trip."
Amanda, or Mandy as she prefers was like a second mother to me. In fact she was more of a mother to me than my own. Macy's dad, John was pretty cool too. Him and dad were best friends. Maya was Macy's little sister who should be around five now. I never met her in person but she crashed a Skype call once or twice.
"I can't wait to see her either. Or to meet Macy. She is so adorable." I tell her.
She rolls her eyes. "More like a pain in the ass."
I laugh. "I would have loved to have had siblings growing up." I say ignoring the fact that I do actually have a sister.
"Well you can take Mason if you want. He is an even bigger pain in the ass."
Just then I hear the door open. "Hello? Macy? Who are you talking to?"
I turn to see Mandy who looks at me surprised. "Lana?"
I nod and she instantly rushes over to hug me. "It is good to see you."
"Oh, honey. I missed you. What are you doing here?" she looks at me with worry in her eyes.
I explain to her everything that happened and she is teary by the end of the story.
"Sweetie, I am sure he will turn up soon. If you ever want to get away from that horrible women you are welcome to stay here." she offers.
"Thank you. I may take you up on your offer." I smile sadly.
"Why don't you stay for dinner? Have a nice home cooked meal instead of hotel room food." She suggests.
"That would be great."
We all got up and prepared dinner together, and just as we were putting it on the table the front door opens again and in he walks in. Mason Turner. Only he isn't the small, quiet, skinny boy I remember. No he is tall, like almost a foot taller than me. His dark hair, dark eyes and tanned skin is very similar to Macy's features. And he was hot. Smoking hot. He has definitely muscled up. In fact the only imperfect thing about him was the pale thin scar above his left eyebrow. And even that only makes him more gorgeous looking. But I can't help but think there is something familiar about him standing there looking at me shocked. And I am not just talking about from when he was young. No, it was something more recent than that.
Then it hits me when he opens his mouth, "What are you doing in my house, Blue? Stalk much."
Oh god, I made out with my best friends brother. No, I just made out with Mason Turner!
Before I can open my mouth, Macy speaks. "Stop staring at my best friend and help me finish setting the table for dinner." Macy says.
"You best friend?" his eyebrows twist in confusion.
"This is Lana. Don't tell me you have forgotten about her." Macy rolls her eyes and goes to the dining room, oblivious to the even more shocked look on his face.
"Lana? You are Lana?" he whispers.
"And you are Mason." I joke.
"Did you-"
"No, I didn't know it was you until just now. And we are not going to speak of it. Ever! Okay? Mace would kill me if she ever found out." I tell him.
His shocked expression is replaced with a smirk. "I can keep a secret, Blue." he winks before joining his family at the table.
The rest of dinner continues perfectly normal except for the tension between me and Mason. We basically ignore each other the whole time except for when I ask him to pass me the salt and even then, he passed it to me wordlessly without even looking me in the eye.
"So what is happening next?" Mandy asks me.
"Not much really. I am stuck here until they find my dad, but as soon as that happens I am leaving. But mum enrolled me in school, so I guess I am here for a while." I announce.
"You are coming to school with us?" Macy asks excitedly.
I nod. "Yup. You are stuck with me." I confirm.
"Yay! Oh my god this is so exciting! I can't wait. We have to go on a shopping trip and plan your outfits for school. And then we can go and get our nails done and oh my god, we can get our hair done too and then.." she rambles.
I laugh. "Macy, slow down. It's just school. It's not a big deal."
"But it is your first ever day of school!"
"You have never gone to school?" Mason finally speaks.
I look at him. "Yeah, I travelled too much to go to school anywhere." I shrug.
"Fine. But we can still go shopping." She basically orders me.
"Okay, as long as you go on a surf with me."
That was the thing about Macy. As much of a girly girl she was, she was equally happy in a bikini on a surfboard, covered in seawater and sand. It was like she had two personalities.
"Of course. I have got to see what skills you have got. Hey, maybe she can join the surf team?" She looks at Mason, hopefully.
"You surf?" He asks me.
"Yeah. So you are on the team?" I ask him.
"He is the captain." Macy answers for him.
"I am not sure about joining a team. I don't want to ditch you guys when dad comes back." I tell them.
"Who said you could join the team, anyway?" Mason suddenly says.
"Mason! That was rude." Mandy scolds him.
"Are you saying you don't think I am good enough?" I ask him, now feeling competitive.
"Yes. That is what I am saying." He remarks.
"Fine. Then how about I prove you wrong?" I challenge him.
"Okay, fine. Tomorrow. You against me."
"Who judges?"
"The team can." Macy suggests.
Mason and I both agree and plans are made.
It looks like I am going to have an awesome day tomorrow, showing him what i've got.

The next day I am up nice and early to prepare for the contest. Already changed into my blue bikini and white board shorts, I arrive at the beach, with my surfboard in hand. I spot Macy in her neon pink bikini, chatting to a group of people our age.
"Lana, your here!" Macy jumps into my arms causing me to drop my board. And let me tell you something. Despite being a skinny girl she sure weighs a lot.
"Yes. Excited much?" I joke.
She drops her feet back down to the ground and she grabs my hand to lead me over to the group of people.
"Everyone, this is my friend, Lana. Lana, this is Dylan, Mason's best friend." she points to a guys with sandy blonde hair making him look like your classic surfer guy, who smiles at me flirtatiously. "Then this is Nick." She points to a very tall guy with black curly hair. "And his girlfriend Kara." She has long dark hair and pale skin. She smiles at me kindly. "And then you know, Mason." Who joins us.
"Hey, Blue. You ready to get your ass kicked?" he smirks at me.
"Don't you mean you are the one who is going to get your assed kicked." I remark smugly.
Everyone laughs at our exchange and then we get prepared for the contest. Luckily the waves were looking perfect today.
Mason and I make our way into the water, ready to begin. I duck dive under a wave and paddle out ready to catch my first wave. I stand on my board and ride the wave, even managing to land an aerial.
Before I know it, the contest is over and we both make our way back to the beach. I can tell I have done well by the Macy's grinning face and Mason's grimace.
"So?" I wait for a confirmation.
"Your are in!" Dylan announces and I grin.
"You were amazing Lana." Macy compliments me.
"Yeah, you were awesome." Kara agrees.
"Thanks." I respond.
It looks like everyone is thrilled that I am joining the team except for Mason who was still scowling. Maybe it won't be so bad here after all.
