Waves: Chapter 5- Maybe You Are Stalking Me?

Waves: Chapter 5- Maybe you are stalking me?
So today is the day. My first ever day of school. Is it going to be like in the movies where you have all the cliche stereotypes? The jocks, the cheerleaders, the nerds, the goths? At least I have already made friends so that won't be a problem.
I am all dressed in my cream lace miniskirt and a green, navy blue, black and cream striped cami, paired with a thin navy blue cardigan and my blue flip flops. Macy and I spent hours in the mall yesterday, giving me a whole new wardrobe because apparently my T-shirts and denim shorts just wouldn't do. I also curled my pinkish blonde hair at the ends and applied more makeup than I ever have before, because really, when you are planning on going in the water several times a day, then what is the point? I only add black eyeliner, mascara and pink lipgloss though. I drew the line on foundations and all that heavy crap.
Grabbing my backpack I go into the kitchen to find my mother and Layla who are ignoring each other. Awkward.
"Oh sweetie, you are ready." Mum says to me. "Layla can drive you to school, until I can get you a car." She is getting me a car? How cliche can you get when it comes to buying your teenage daughter's affection?
"I will not, mum." Layla instantly complains and I roll my eyes.
"She is your sister! Just drive her to school. Maybe you two can get to know each other. Bond." She suggests.
Yeah like that was going to happen. "It's okay. I have a ride."
"With who? You only just got here." Mum asks curiously.
"Macy and Mason."
"Mason Turner?" Layla shrieks. Wow she really does have a crush on him.
"Honey, I am not sure I want you hanging out with those people. Why don't you spend time with Layla's friends? They are much more... High class."
Did my mother really just say that?
"She is not hanging out with my friends." Layla looks at me with disgust.
"You have no right to tell tell me who I do it do not hang out with! And a car isn't going to fix anything. For all you know, I can't even drive!" I yell at her before storming out of the penthouse.
Okay, so I can drive. Dad made sure to teach me when we visited friends in Australia. But she doesn't know that.
Still pissed off, I storm off down the front steps of the entrance and climb into Mason's car when I spot them.
"Thanks. I couldn't stay there any longer." I say to Macy.
"What happened this time?" She asks peering at me from the front passenger seat.
"Mum was saying that you guys weren't high class enough for me to hang out with and she tried to buy my affection by buying me a car."
"Not high class? Well fuck the high class snobs. I am way more awesome than any of those stuck up morons." Macy says now pissed off too.
"Don't worry. I am not going to listen to her."
"Good." She smiles and leans back into her seat. "You look hot by the way." She winks.
I blush slightly as I notice Mason looking at me through the front mirror but he doesn't say a word.
"Thanks."
"So you excited to start school?" She then brings up the subject that causes my hands to sweat with nerves.
"I guess. More nervous than anything."
"You only missed a few weeks of Junior Year so it shouldn't be too bad. And if anyone messes with you they have me to deal with."
I laugh because Macy is so tiny but she can be scary when she needs to be.
"Yeah, I am sure."
Before I know it we pull up at the high school.
Here goes nothing.
***
The beginning of the day was pretty uneventful. Just gathered all my information after some weird talk with the principal. People giving me strange looks. I wasn't sure if it was because of my pink hair or the fact that I was new.
The school looked pretty much like any high school I have seen in movies except a bit more plain. Not to mention there was a view of the ocean and it was surrounded by palm trees.
First period was English which I didn't have Macy in but I did have Mason in this class. I realised this when I saw him sitting next to his friends chatting about something. Then the teacher asks me to introduce myself to the class. Talk about awkward.
"Why don't you take a seat next to Mr Turner." He points to the empty seat near the back and I awkwardly make my way there and sit down, ignoring Mason's glare.
What was this boy's problem with me?
It turns out Kara was also in this class and sits down in the seat in front of me.
"Hey, there." She turns to face me.
"Hi." I smile at her.
"So how's it going so far?"
"Pretty uneventful to be honest." I shrug.
Just then class starts and I tune it out pretty quickly because they were having a discussion about The Great Gatsby and I have already read it.
Next class I have is Economics. And guess who happens to be in that class with me. Mason. And Layla.  Talk about fun.
"Are you stalking me it did you ask for all the same classes as me?" Mason remarks as he sits behind me.
"Maybe you are stalking me?" I say back, lamely.
Wordlessly, he passes me his class schedule and I see that I also have Spanish with him later. Awesome.
I hand it back to him without a word as Layla scowls at me.
"She is obsessed with you. I can practically feel the jealousy from here." I remark.
"She is your sister. You guys probably share the crazy obsessed gene."
"Shut up. She is nothing like me."
"You mean you aren't stubborn and arrogant?"
"I am not stubborn and arrogant!" I argue.
"Yeah, right. I forgot to add clueless."
"I am not clueless. At least I'm not a self-absorbed asshole."
"At least I'm not a bitch."
"Man-Whore."
"Moany."
"Moron."
"Slut."
"Excuse me. But do you guys mind quitting your flirting and just just shut up." Some guy says causing me to receive another round of death glares from Layla and her bitchy followers.
Then the teacher, Mr Terrance walks in. He is a lot younger than I was expecting. In fact he was pretty hot. He had dark blonde hair, bright blue eyes and just a hint of stubble on his face which would make some people look scruffy but makes him look even sexier. Oh god and now I have a crush on my teacher. Okay, it's not really a crush. It's more like a nice view to enjoy during class.
"Hello, class." he says with a relaxed smile on his face. He unbuttons his shirt sleeves and rolls them up to his elbow and loosens his tie. "It has only been a few weeks and this shirt is already annoying me. Why should we have to wear shirts in Hawaii." Everyone laughs. I could already tell he was going to be one of those cool young teachers that students can relate to. "And I have heard that we have a new student. Welcome to the class Lana. I hope everyone makes you feel welcome. If you need anything or are behind just let me know." I just nod, grateful to not have to make another introduction speech. "So today we are going to be talking about Fiscal Policy. I know it isn't the most interesting part of economics but it important to know how to reduce the effects of market failure."
The lesson continues as normal, as does the rest of the morning where I had chemistry after economics. It was finally lunch time and that means that I can finally talk to Macy properly.
"Hey, girly." Macy appears suddenly.
"Hi. You are in a good mood."
"That, is because James Dennis just asked me out on a date." she grins.
"I have no idea who that is." I admit as we walk into the cafeteria.
"He is that guy over there." she discreetly points to a guy sitting at a table talking to his friends. He was pretty good looking and seemed popular.
"Cool. Can I ask you a random question?"
"Sure. Anything." she says collecting a large bowl of pasta. I give her a look. "What? I am hungry." she shrugs.
I laugh. "Anyway, I was wondering, do schools have like groups? Like in the movies. Everyone hanging out in groups with similar people."
"Kind of. Like it isn't as extreme as the movies where you have the goths and the jocks and so on. But it is a bit like that. The only very cliche group is the cheerleaders, aka your sister." she says pointing to a group of people. "Then there are the snobbish rich kids which refuse to hang out with 'poor' people. There are other rich kids to but they go into other groups. Then there is the unpopular people instead of the nerds and geeks." she points to the group of people who are hanging out in the corner and not really talking to people as much. "Then there is the sporty people, the clever people, the druggie people. And then there is us. The surfers who rule the school." she jokes.
We take a seat at the table where the rest of the surf team is hanging. The surf team seems to be pretty popular but not like the rich kids and the cheerleaders.
"Hey newbie." Dylan greets me. "How is it going?"
"Not too bad. Mr Terrance seems cool." I shrug.
"Yeah, last year he took his class to the beach. But he isn't as relaxed as he seems. He really does actually want you to learn and to try hard, but because you want to. Not because you have to." Dylan informs me.
"Why does Layla Hayes give you evil death glares all the time?" Kara asks me.
It wasn't until then that I realised no one knows that I am Layla's sister except for Macy and Mason.
"I dunno." I lie, shrugging.
Macy and Mason look at me weirdly but don't say anything. I don't really want people to associate me with Layla or my mum.
"She really seems to hate your guts."
"Well I didn't do anything." Which is technically true.
"So, surf practice tomorrow?" Mason suggests and we all nod in agreement.
After making plans for tomorrow's practice, we all split up and head to class with Macy for math. Our only class together.

Hey, So here is another chapter! It's not hugely eventful but there it is. I hope you liked it.
