Waves: Prologue

Waves Prologue

OceanGirl101-
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not have to spend your days sitting in a classroom? That instead of being stuck in a boring class and having a long lecture from some boring teacher, you could be outside doing something you love? Or have you ever thought about all the different places in the world that you have yet to see? But you can't travel to see them until after graduation. Have you ever imagined living a life where instead of seeing the same people every day and doing the same routines that you can be doing something different, or learning something knew every single day?
Well I haven't. And my reason? I never went to school. I haven't even lived in a house for as long as I can remember. So you are probably wondering what on earth I am talking about. Well you see, I grew up slightly different to most people. I grew up on the ocean. No, I am not a mermaid. I live on a boat. I pretty much always have.
It all goes back to when I was around six years old. Actually my story starts before I was even born. You see, my parents were born in England. My mum was from London, and from a wealthy family somewhere in Chelsea. Then my dad was born in Cornwall (For those of you who don't know where that it, it is the South West of England. It is basically the coastal countryside.) and he couldn't be more different from my mother. My mum was brought up in a high class society where she was taught to go to university, meet a wealthy man, get married and have children. When she was eighteen she went on holiday with some friends to Cornwall as a break before she went to University. There, she of course met my dad. Dad was around twenty. He was not from the wealthiest area and was brought up learning to sail boats. He worked on fixing them for some local dockyard or something. When they met, it was apparently love at first sight. My mother started her summer with a future in mind, a place at university and her parent's love. However she ended it with her being married and pregnant, dropping out of university and her parent's disowning her.
For years they struggled financially, but they were happy. Dad got offered a job in Hawaii and they decided to move over there. When dad got fired because his boss was a bastard. (His words. Not mine) mum was worried about their future. Not really knowing what to do, they decided to invest some of their money into this company that grew immensely by the time I was four. With the money, mum decided to buy a hotel. With that extra income she eventually sold it and ended up buying a small resort that needed a lot of fixing up before it would be ready. Of course dad did all the handy work. By the time the first year after opening was over, the resort was a huge hit. Like way better than anyone could have imagined. It grew and expanded. But as the resort improved, our family worsened. Mum was busy working all the time and dad wanted to move on to their next big adventure. However mum refused, finally happy to be as wealthy as she used to be, if not more so, and without her parents help. This led to a lot of fighting and eventually a divorce, where dad got full custody of me. With dad's share of the resort, he bought a large fifty something foot catamaran and we took off, leaving my workaholic mother behind, not to be heard from again.
So anyway back to the part that you really want to know. I have been homeschooled my entire life. I usually spend my days sailing to new exotic locations, checking out local markets or surfing the morning waves. I know what you must be thinking. What an amazing life, right? Well yes of course I wouldn't change it for the world, but it does have it downsides. I mean, how are you ever expected to make any friends when you know it is only temporary? And there is always very limited hot water and you often end up only having enough water to shower every other day. Then of course, unlike most teenagers who are glued to their phones, worrying about texting their friends and how many likes their new Facebook profile is going to get, I have rarely got any signal or wifi. Though I guess it is not the end of the world when you never had it in the first place. I mean I barely know how to use my phone. I am pretty technologically impaired. In fact it is a miracle that I can even type this now.
So why am I blogging to strangers about my life? Well I figure that I needed someone to talk to seeing as I don't exactly have a ton of friends. I had some when I was young but not since. You see, dad is leaving tomorrow to sail in this race on his friends boat. Without me, which is the reason I am starting this blog. So I am staying here on the boat, somewhere in Fiji by myself. I am sure I will be fine. Sure, I haven't been on my own for more than a couple days and dad is meant to be gone for six weeks but I am sure I can survive.
Because what more can I need than the waves?

Hey Guys! So I am back with my new story! Just to save the trouble of confusion, this prologue was a blog post that the main character wrote. Each blog post will have OceanGirl101 before it and it should be in italics. So don't get it confused with my author notes which will be bold and usually at the end of each chapter. This was basically the backstory of the main character and the Chapter 1 will probably be set the day after her blog post.
I hope you enjoy this story! Please comment to let me know what you think so far!
*Warning may be slightly cliche, so don't complain about it because you have been warned!
